NANTAHALA RACING CLB CODE OF CONDUCT

1. All members of the Nantahala Racing Club shall not break Federal, State or local laws.

A. This includes all rules and regulations of USA Canoe/Kayak Team, the National Slalom and Wildwater Committee, the Nantahala Racing Club, the Nantahala Outdoor Center, and organizations and sponsors involved with the NRC.

B. This includes the use of all controlled substances including underage drinking and the use of banned performance-enhanced substances.

2. All members of the NRC shall follow the rules and regulations established by their coaches and NRC staff.

3. All members of the NRC shall show respect for other people and their property.

• No member of the NRC shall verbally or physically abuse others.
• No member of the NRC shall steal, destroy, or otherwise tamper with other people’s equipment.
• Good sportsmanship, win or loose, is a must for all NRC members.

4. All equipment loaned to NRC members shall be properly maintained and cared for, and returned at the agreed upon time.

5. Educational excellence for junior athletes in necessary for participation in NRC activities. A “C” average and good school behavior is required.

CONSEQUENCES FOR CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATION

· If immediate actions are required, NRC coaches, staff, and Board of Directors have the power to establish temporary consequences until the Disciplinary Committee can meet.

· A Disciplinary Committee shall be established upon the request of the Executive Director or President of the club comprised of : (1) athlete, (1) parent, and (1) member of the Board of Directors.

· The Disciplinary Committee will gather all necessary information and meet with those involved. NRC staff will help facilitate the proceedings to ensure the process is done in a timely fashion.

· Possible actions include

1. Warning and/or apology

2. Probation/Suspension

3. Community/Club service

4. Loss of funding

5. Permanent suspension

Factors that might suggest more lenient sanction include:

• First offense
• Apparent desire to reform
• Dedication to club

Factors that might suggest a harsher sanction include:

• Violation of the law
• Prior complaints
• Extraordinary bad judgment
• Lack of remorse

5. The Disciplinary Committee will give written notice of the determined consequences to the Executive Director who will notify all involved. NRC staff and club members will help enforce the consequences.

Having read the above Code of Conduct, I will adhere to all stated policies, knowing that failure to do so on my part will result in consequences determined by the Nantahala Racing Club.
